It’s September and universities will be welcoming new students into their freshmen year. If you thought that secondary school was where the popularity contests and judgement from other students ended, you will be in for a surprise. If you are not careful, you can easily get pulled into the obsession with vanity. If you are at an arts university and especially a university where courses in fashion design are offered, you will definitely feel the pressure to wear a different striking outfit every day and always look your best. Even if It’s not about the fashion, people will just want to look as attractive as they can with the hope that they’ll seduce potential love interests or find their life partner at university as many of us have been told it’s the place to meet your soulmate. I don’t think this is true for most, but it is worth a try. You may just want to look good so you can feel good about yourself, as for many of us now, how we look seems to have a direct impact on our self-esteem. No matter your reason for wanting to look good, here are some tips on how to do it at university!
The number one way to look good at university is to relax. It sounds strange, but if you are calm, you will be happier, and an honest smile can boost any look in a second. If you are wanting to attract others to you, being relaxed is the best way as you will appear more approachable. People will want to be in your presence. Meditation can be very effective and as simple as deep breathing for five minutes at the start of each day, or whenever you feel stressed.
The next best way to look good at university is to look after yourself. Stress, lack of sleep, an unhealthy diet, lots of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes can really take their toll on not only your mental and physical well-being, but also your appearance. All of these factors can cause your hair and skin to look unhealthy. Makeup may cover it, but it won’t help it get better. If anything, makeup that clogs your pores can worsen your skin, so, if you want to look good, eat as nutritious a diet as you can, have a consistent natural skincare routine, and treat your body with respect by limiting your alcohol, avoiding smoking, and getting enough rest.
Now for the external ways to look good. I’ve always been an advocate for being yourself and not following the rest, so instead of following the current trends, try to find a style that you really like. You can look on Pinterest for ideas or in magazines. You could play around with different combinations of the clothing you already have to avoid spending money or look around charity shops.
